The Hungarian Department of Film and Media of UBB is participating in the Hungarian University Film Award (PUMF) program again this year. In this year’s edition of the PUMF, launched in spring 2021 at the initiative of the Hungarian Society for Film Studies, students will be able to watch and discuss six contemporary Hungarian feature films selected by a preliminary professional jury. After the film screenings, the students will gather in Budapest at the end of the academic semester to announce, in a final workshop, the winning film of the Hungarian University Film Award 2026. In the second semester of the academic year 2025–2026, the Hungarian Department of Film and Media will integrate the program in the form of a film club, the last stage being a film screening included as an introductory program within the Frame Festival. Each member of the participating university groups votes on the six films in the MEF, and following the group votes, a ranking is drawn up – the hierarchy of Hungarian films considered the best. During the PUMF final, organized in early summer and traditionally hosted by the Metropolitan University of Budapest, one or two student delegates from each participating institution analyze the films together with their colleagues, while also representing the opinions of their own groups.

In this series, artist Ákos Koncz-Münich explores urban loneliness and the fragile, often uncertain dynamics of human connection. By deliberately omitting individual facial features, he focuses on presence rather than specific identities, allowing viewers to project their own emotions and experiences onto the anonymous silhouettes that become symbols of isolation.

According to the artist, rediscovering authentic human relationships — whose absence constitutes a true “human error,” a glitch within collective existence — is essential in today’s world. In his work, he combines traditional photography with technological experimentation, including the process of circuit bending — the intentional modification of an old digital camera in order to expose the internal errors of technology itself — thereby reintegrating technological waste into the creative act. Digital noise and controlled glitch effects become visual expressions of inner unrest and searching, transforming Error: Unstable Connection into both a personal and technical reflection on loneliness and the fragility of human connection.

The second edition of the “Education through Theatre and Community” Conference brings together teachers, researchers, artists and specialists from theatre faculties across the country in a dialogue dedicated to the role of theatre in contemporary educational processes. The event aims to create a dynamic space for exchange between the academic environment and innovative pedagogical practices, where theatre becomes a tool for learning, exploration, and community cohesion.The agenda includes a special workshop for teachers, led by students of the master’s programme Education through Theatre, who will propose interactive methods, performative exercises, and practical applications for integrating theatre into school activities. Participants will have the opportunity to directly experience theatrical techniques and approaches designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students. Through its interdisciplinary perspective and the active involvement of young creators, the conference continues its mission of strengthening the connection between theatre, education, and community, offering a professional framework for the exchange of ideas, inspiration, and ongoing development.

After a mental breakdown, a twenty-two-year-old student reconsiders his life through a fragmented confession about childhood, sexuality, guilt, and anxiety. A story about a young man and his inability to adapt to a world in which fragility finds no place. Who do we talk to when we feel that emptiness in our stomach that suffocates us and pulls us back? What language do we translate it into? How do we ask for help in a world that teaches us ever since childhood to hide all our mess under the rug?

How honest can theatre be in a world where everything is performed, directed, and pre-packaged? “Abuzarea scenei” is a play about the limits of political theatre and the frustrations of those who step on stage in an attempt to “change the world.” About us, the artists. About you, the audience. About what binds us together in the darkness of the theatre hall, even when everything seems lost. Sivan Ben Yishai writes this text as a contemporary response to „Abuzarea publicului” (en: “Offending the Audience”) by Peter Handke, the 1966 manifesto play that radically questioned theatrical conventions and transformed the spectator’s passivity into an act of awareness.

„Când soarele toarnă peste lume jar” is an original theatrical exploration that extracts fundamental relationships between characters from William Shakespeare’s famous plays and reorganizes them into a collage of eight scenes, each featuring two characters. The central theme of the performance is love as an adventure of self-discovery through the other. The chorus is the focal point of the production, translating, both visually and by sound, the psychic energy on stage, as well as the characters’ states and intentions. The show, whose sound universe is entirely created live, demonstrates how songs from diverse cultures can convey to the audience the emotional intensity of extreme confrontations in Shakespeare’s plays.

At the beginning of our journey, our professors gave us the book Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel and suggested that we call ourselves ARC Theatre Company. Actors are very similar to archers, and our art has much in common with the art of archery.

What explains the enduring fascination, unchanged for decades, of the experiences described in Eugen Herrigel’s book, lived along the “Way of the Bow” (Kyudo in Japanese)? It lies in the fact that the art of archery is not limited to merely trying to hit the target. When, after many years of striving for perfection, the archer finally forgets all conscious effort, so that the release of the arrow becomes perfect and occurs spontaneously, “like snow sliding from a bamboo leaf,” then one has discovered the secret of the “artless art” of archery, of Zen thinking, and even of life itself.
