Over the course of ten days, the festival will welcome audiences with free theatre performances, film screenings, exhibitions, professional discussions, and a book fair, hosted both at the faculty’s new headquarters — located at 2 Burebista Street — and in several other cultural venues across Cluj-Napoca.

As is well known, the Faculty of Theatre and Film first launched its festival in 2004 under the name Galactoria, originally conceived as a platform for graduating students in the university’s theatre programs to present their work. Parallel to this, the CineMedia Gala was also established as an annual event dedicated to showcasing the projects of students working and studying in the fields of film, photography, and media.

At the same time, 2024 marked a creative period of reinvention for the two festivals, with the explicit intention of creating a shared festival — now known as FRAME — for a faculty that has continuously evolved and expanded with increasingly diverse academic programs.

Today, the event series has become a multidisciplinary arts festival bringing together Romanian- and Hungarian-language undergraduate and master’s students from all specializations, with all events open to the public free of charge. (However, theatre performances require prior reservation, which can be made by anyone through the festival’s website.)

The motto of this year’s edition — Practicing the Future — also reflects the organizers’ intention to foreground contemporary issues, especially through professional discussions and workshops open to university students. These include topics such as the ongoing transformation of artistic and professional practices, as well as the challenges faced by young artists pursuing creative careers in an increasingly accelerated and rapidly changing world.

Building on the traditions of previous university festivals, the FRAME Festival will once again present the latest theatre productions, films, visual works, and research projects created within the faculty, while also offering a diverse program that encourages dialogue and exchange among participants and opens toward the culture-loving public of Cluj-Napoca.

The organizers hope that enthusiasts of theatre, film, and visual arts alike will find programs to their taste among the nearly fifty events included in the FRAME Festival lineup.
