📍 Venue: Radu Stanca Hall, Faculty of Letters (31 Horea St.)

Mom told me not to smoke, and I listened. Who have you been listening to so far? Hey, I’m Sânziana and I’m throwing a party! I’d really like it if you came too. We can dance (I promise I’ll play good music), talk about what’s on your mind, maybe about that guy or girl you said you like, and go out for a smoke. Smoke, rolling papers, tobacco, filters over filters, and ash… everything is fine now. You know, I don’t think I’m going to become a good woman, I argue too much with my mother, I should probably start smoking, and that boy won’t ask me out on a second date. Take a breath… we’re going to have a really good time, I promise! With a bit of luck, this party will become a pretext for rediscovery. Gradually, we may realize that we are not actually talking about cigarettes, femininity, love, or mothers, but about decisions, authenticity, fears, and control, although that remains for each of us to discover.

On a more serious note, from a technical perspective, the performance sits at the border between theatre and performance, with a strong element of improvisation and adaptation to context. It is a theatre-dance piece, in which the body and movement become the main means of expression. Music, recordings, and video projections complete the stage universe, creating a shared visual and sensory experience.

Dress code: something red, elegant if you feel like it, but most importantly something that represents you, I know… hard 🙂 Everything is already set up, you’re the only thing missing! With love, Someone trying to understand people

❓ Who is ARC Theatre Company?

👉 Class of 2022–2026, Acting Programme, Romanian Line

At the beginning of our journey, our professors gave us the book Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel and suggested that we call ourselves ARC Theatre Company. Actors are very similar to archers, and our art has much in common with the art of archery.

What explains the enduring fascination, unchanged for decades, of the experiences described in Eugen Herrigel’s book, lived along the “Way of the Bow” (Kyudo in Japanese)? It lies in the fact that the art of archery is not limited to merely trying to hit the target. When, after many years of striving for perfection, the archer finally forgets all conscious effort, so that the release of the arrow becomes perfect and occurs spontaneously, “like snow sliding from a bamboo leaf,” then one has discovered the secret of the “artless art” of archery, of Zen thinking, and even of life itself.
