Conflict in a Glass is a hybrid choreographic performance that straddles the boundaries of dance, theatre and music, exploring the dynamics of human conflict through a simple yet powerful metaphor: a glass that is filling up. The starting point is the phrase “the glass is full”, which symbolises the accumulation of emotional and social tensions. The performance follows how internal and external tensions are layered on top of each other – those invisible influences that over time lead to an eruption, a rupture or a transformation. The performers move through different situations – personal, relational and social conflicts – while the glass and the liquid inside are their only props. They are constantly emptied and refilled, while the meaning of the object is also constantly changing: at once a witness, a trigger and a symbol of boundaries, fragility and pressure. The first part of the performance is based on purely physical expression, where movement becomes the main language, indicating tension, uncertainty and unspoken accumulation. Gradually, however, the nonverbal world gives way to words, and the performers turn to direct speech, confronting their own experiences and the audience. This transition leads from the inside to the outside, from repression to expression. The piece does not offer definitive answers, but opens up new perspectives on conflicts – not only as obstacles, but also as opportunities for understanding, liberation and reconnection. It directs the audience towards their own limits, ways of managing tension and the possibilities of more authentic communication.

At the beginning of our journey, our professors gave us the book Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel and suggested that we call ourselves ARC Theatre Company. Actors are very similar to archers, and our art has much in common with the art of archery.
What explains the enduring fascination, unchanged for decades, of the experiences described in Eugen Herrigel’s book, lived along the “Way of the Bow” (Kyudo in Japanese)? It lies in the fact that the art of archery is not limited to merely trying to hit the target. When, after many years of striving for perfection, the archer finally forgets all conscious effort, so that the release of the arrow becomes perfect and occurs spontaneously, “like snow sliding from a bamboo leaf,” then one has discovered the secret of the “artless art” of archery, of Zen thinking, and even of life itself.
